CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Air quality in the Charlotte area has prompted state officials to issue an advisory warning of pollution.

Officials with the state Division of Air Quality have issued a health notice for air pollution in the Charlotte area, meaning air quality is likely to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children and the elderly who are active outside, people who work or exercise outside and those with respiratory problems such as bronchitis.

The air pollution forecast for Thursday calls for ozone levels higher than the federal standard. High ozone levels generally occur on hot, sunny days when the air is stagnant. The ozone levels are highest in the afternoon.
